About bilinguallearning

A bilingual programme was adopted in Singapore in 1966. This programme used English as the main language of instruction and a second language or Mother tongue is taught as a subject, with a language teacher coming into the class on scheduled time. In a bilingual immersion programme, two languages are delivered effectively by both language teachers as co-partners in the same classroom at the same time all the time. Research has indicated that Bilingual immersion programme is extremely effective in helping children learn two languages well. Understanding the critical period of children’s learning, this immersion facilitates language acquisition at a very young age and encourages children to interact within context throughout the day in both languages. Working in a preschool that has maintained high standards in the Bilingual immersion Programme, we have given the children reason to celebrate their future. Curriculum Consultant with a well known bilingual preschool in Singapore.
